The Union of Belarusian Writers (UBW) was accepted as a full member at the annual general Assembly of the Baltic Writers’ Council (BWC), on the 26th-27th of March in Visby, Gotland, at the Baltic Centre for Writers and Translators. The Baltic Writers’ Council thereby represents 20 literary organizations, 11 countries and approximately 16.000 members around the Baltic region.  During the meeting the Council learned about ongoing harassment of UBW members. Since promoting freedom of expression and the free flow of ideas are the most important aims of the Council, the development in Belarus will be followed with great attention and concern.
